Nick Colionne was an American professional singer and jazz guitarist. Because of his fabulous guitar skills, his heavenly vocals, and his dynamic stage persona, he was famous all over the world. He hit No. 1 on Billboard’s smooth jazz airplay chart eight times, and he was the only smooth jazz artist with five No. 1 hits from a single album, 2016’s “The Journey.”

As mentioned earlier, Nick had an interest in music since his early years. According to sources, his stepfather was his inspiration. Nick started learning music at the age of nine. By the end of the next six years, Nick had already started the practice of singing in pubs and on the streets. Also, at such a young age, he got a chance to tour with bands like The Staple Singers, The Impressions, and so on.
Since starting his professional career in the 90s with his debut musical, “It’s My Turn, Colionne,” Nick has released many albums. By the beginning of 2000, even the international jazz community recognized him. He continued to improve his jazz concepts and released the majority of the amazing music pieces. Some of his incredible jazz works include Keepin’ Cool, High Flying, Uncle Nick, and Feel the Heat.
Finger Painting, released in April 2020, became his last release. In 1996, Nick received the Malcolm X College Alumnus of the Year award. And in 2010, he received the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award.

Nick died on the first day of the new year, at the age of 55. Though the detailed cause of his death is yet to be published, it is said that he was suffering from pain. On December 31, he got admitted to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago as his pain got worse. In the hospital, he took his last breath on January 1, 2022. News of his untimely death left all of his fans and well-wishers, heartbroken.

Michael Lington, a Danish-American contemporary saxophonist and songwriter, has shared videos of him jamming with Nick during the Pandemic on his YouTube channel. After Nick’s death, Michael paid tribute to the late Nick Collione on Instagram by sharing a picture of them.
He wrote, “Incredibly sad that we lost Nick Colionne this morning! We all have the same experience with him—always fun and warm on and off stage.” He added, “I don’t recall when we first met, but it was many moons ago. I will miss you so my brother. RIP”
